ON DECEMBER 3, 2023, WE LOST OUR BELOVED COLLEAGUE DR. PHILLIP L. ROTHBART. HE HAD A DISTINGUISHED LEGAL AND MEDICAL CAREER THAT SPANNED OVER 50 YEARS.
Dr. Rothbart practiced medicine for 50 years, practicing medicine and law concurrently for 25 of those years, before joining the firm full-time in 2001. The combination of a medical degree with a law degree provided him with uncommon depth in analyzing toxic tort exposure issues, greatly assisting in moving cases forward. He was a tireless advocate for our clients and had a passion for the work and life that was unsurpassed. He continued to practice every day until shortly before his death.
Dr. Rothbart received his B.A. from the University of Oklahoma, his M.D. from the University of Bonn, Germany, and later his J.D. from the Delaware Law School of Widener University. He served in the United States Army, stationed in France.
Dr. Rothbart was also committed to giving back to his profession. Phil also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law, and then later as a Visiting Professor of Law, at his alma mater, the Delaware Law School, also teaching courses at the programs abroad in Geneva, Switzerland. He was a member of countless medical associations and societies, including the American Medical Association, the Medical Society of Delaware, and the American Society of Law and Medicine, as well as a member of multiple bar associations. Throughout his career, Phil was appointed to numerous boards of directors and was a founding member of Physician’s Health Services of Delaware, which is now Coventry Health Care.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Dr. Rothbart was an accomplished doctor and lawyer who lived life to the fullest until his passing at 92.
He will be greatly missed.
